A summary of the traditional order of worship.

Saṅkalpa — after a bath, sit facing east, take water in the right hand and resolve the intention of the worship, naming the occasion.
Gaṇeśa & Kalaśa — first invoke Gaṇeśa for an obstacle-free rite, then establish the kalaśa (a water-pot with mango leaves and a coconut) and invoke the Navagraha.
Invocation — invoke Satyanārāyaṇa (Viṣṇu) and offer the sixteen upacāras: āvāhana, āsana, pādya, arghya, ācamana, snāna, vastra, yajñopavīta, candana, puṣpa, dhūpa, dīpa, naivedya, tāmbūla, ārati and pradakṣiṇā.
Kathā & prasāda — read (or hear) the five chapters of the Satyanārāyaṇa Kathā, offer the sacred prasāda of wheat-flour, ghee, sugar and banana, and distribute it to all present.
